Starting today, the new Amazon EC2 C7g instances powered by the latest generation custom-designed AWS Graviton3 processors are available in preview. Amazon EC2 C7g instances will provide the best price performance in Amazon EC2 for compute-intensive workloads such as high performance computing (HPC), gaming, video encoding, and CPU-based machine learning inference. These instances are the first in the cloud to feature the cutting edge DDR5 memory technology, which provides 50% more bandwidth compared to DDR4 memory. C7g instances provide 20% higher networking bandwidth compared to previous generation C6g instances based on AWS Graviton2 processors. They also support Elastic Fabric Adapter (EFA) for applications such as high performance computing that require high levels of inter-node communication.

AWS Graviton3 is the latest in the Graviton family of processors that are custom-designed by AWS to enable the best price performance for workloads in Amazon EC2. They provide up to 25% better compute performance, up to 2x higher floating-point performance, and up to 2x faster cryptographic workload performance compared to AWS Graviton2 processors. Graviton3 processors deliver up to 3x better performance compared to Graviton2 processors for CPU-based machine learning workloads, with support for bfloat16 and fp16 instructions. Graviton3 processors also support pointer authentication for enhanced security in addition to always-on 256-bit memory encryption available in AWS Graviton2.

Amazon EC2 C7g instances are built on the AWS Nitro System, a collection of AWS-designed hardware and software innovations that enable the delivery of efficient, flexible, and secure cloud services with isolated multi-tenancy, private networking, and fast local storage.

Amazon EC2 instances powered by the AWS Graviton family of processors, including C7g instances, are supported by many popular Linux operating systems including Amazon Linux 2, Red Hat Enterprise Linux, Suse Enterprise Linux Server, and Ubuntu. Many popular applications and services for security, monitoring and management, containers, and CI/CD from AWS and Independent Software Vendors also support AWS Graviton-based instances. The AWS Graviton Ready program provides customers with certified solutions from third party vendors that can be used on Graviton-based instances.
